Mississippi House Bill 581 and its companion Senate Bill 2431 become effective July 1, 2014 and amend the MS dealer franchise laws. In order to sell a third-party extended service contract, extended maintenance plan or similar product (including GAP) a disclosure must be made orally and in writing that the product is not provided or supported by an automotive manufacturer or distributor. The bill is seeking to prohibit coercive behaviors by manufacturers in promoting products.
